Queensland Premier Steven Miles has weighed in after footage emerged of his predecessor Annastacia Palaszczuk failing to endorse him as the Sunshine State heads to the polls in two months.
Queensland's Premier Steven Miles has weighed in after footage emerged of his predecessor Annastacia Palaszczuk dodging a question asking her to endorse the state Labor leader.
Ms Palaszczuk seemed to snub a question from a reporter asking her to publicly endorse the current Premier. When pressed on the non-answer, Mr Miles did not seem fazed by Ms Palaszczuk’s response, telling reporters he was confident he had the former premier's endorsement for the next election.“What she was trying to say yesterday was she didn’t intend to become a political commentator and she was avoiding political commentary.“I’m seeking a mandate in my own right in October and I’m spending my time every single day talking to Queenslanders, delivering for them.
Speculation over the former premier’s endorsements comes as Queensland Labor faces a landslide loss at the upcoming election in late October. This is a stark contrast to Labor’s sweeping victory at the 2020 state election when it took 52 seats while the Coalition secured 34 and another seven were split amongst Katter’s Australia, the Greens, One Nation and an Independent.
