COVID cases in Ballarat have been high for weeks, and the hospital is feeling the pressure.
The Ballarat Base Hospital is triggering a 'code yellow' and urging members of the community to carefully consider whether they need to go to hospital.Increased demand on Ballarat hospital's emergency department and COVID ward has led to the moveGrampians Health, which manages the hospital, said it was seeing an increase in the number of people seeking emergency care, as well as an increased demand to manage and isolate COVID-19 patients.
The latest state health data shows Ballarat has been averaging 200 cases of COVID-19 a day for the past two and a half weeks.It is the highest daily average in Ballarat since the end of January. "Over the past few weeks, we have seen slight fluctuations in the number of staff unable to work due to being COVID-positive or close contacts," the spokesperson said.
