At least 19 people have died and more than 70 are injured after fire engulfed a high-rise in Bangladesh, with people forced to leap from windows.

The blaze trapped many inside the building, with some shouting for help from windows on high floors or from the roof.Fire officials said after battling the blaze for several hours that most had been rescued.

A huge fire tore through a Dhaka office block March 28 killing at least seven people with many others feared trapped in the latest major inferno to hit the Bangladesh capital. Pic: AFPA Facebook Live video taken by Roy Pinaki showed five people scaling down from windows while burnt building materials fell around them.

More than a dozen people who fled to the roof were rescued by firefighters using hydraulic cranes, Bardhan said.
