Trade Minister Stuart Ayres will be asked about his role in John Barilaro’s appointment to a New York trade post.
Former NSW deputy premier John Barilaro will next month front a committee probing his controversial appointment to a US trade post, in a marathon sitting which could run over two days.
Mr Ayres issued a statement earlier this week after documents showed the Liberal deputy leader had signed a brief announcing that senior bureaucrat Jenny West had been selected for the US trade post, The appointment later went to Mr Barilaro.Oscar Colman, Kate Geraghty, Dominic Lorrimer, Nick Moir On Thursday, Mr Ayres told press at the opening of a regional trade office in Mumbai that it was the state which had lost out from Mr Barilaro’s decision to withdraw from the $500,000 a year role.The premier and Mr Ayres have both repeatedly said Mr Barilaro was selected to become the state’s senior trade and investment commissioner after an initial recruitment process did not find a suitable candidate.
Investment NSW former deputy secretary Jenny West was initially handed the role in August 2021 before a submission went to cabinet calling for the appointment process to be switched to a ministerial pick.
