Barilaro took US trip after allegedly revealing his hopes for a NY job | AlexSmithSMH
Former deputy premier John Barilaro went on a trade trip to the US just four months after he allegedly told his then chief of staff that he wanted a plum government job in New York post-politics.
The trip cost the taxpayer $53,639. The diaries also show Barilaro went on an earlier 10-day trip, which included a visit to New York, in March 2018. That trip cost about $34,000. In the submission, Connell said Barilaro told him he wanted a New York posting after he got “the f--- out of here”. At that stage, NSW had a trade presence in California but not New York.
“The conversation he has recalled is fictitious, false and only serves as a reminder as to why we had to part ways,” Barilaro said. The revelations of the trips will further inflame the controversy around Barilaro’s appointment. It has also emerged thatThis is despite a raft of documents – including briefing notes, recruitment reports, panel assessments and selection criteria – related to the first recruitment round being produced.
