Barnaby Joyce says climate policy should be practical, suggesting nuclear power, a day after releasing a video suggesting a tax won't change climate.

New England MP Barnaby Joyce says Australia should pursue climate change policies that deliver"tactile" outcomes. The Nationals MP and former deputy prime minister says successful climate policy would include stimulating the economy with dam building during drought, and working on infrastructure such as the Inland Rail to reduce freight vehicle emissions, as well as developing nuclear power and clean coal technology to reduce emissions.

"A big issue the Nationals needs to push forward is that drought policy needs to be driven by people with long term experience on the land, and who will live the ramifications," he said. "I just don't want the government any more in my life. I'm sick of the government being in my life," he said. "It frustrates me when people say we should deal with climate change by bringing in a new fad, that's absolute tokenism and a way to graft more money out of people.
