Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has been cleared to return to Australia after testing positive for COVID-19 in the United States almost a fortnight ago.on Monday after leaving ten days of self-isolation in a Washington DC hotel.Mr Joyce believes he caught the highly-transmissible Omicron variant during meetings in London before he flew to America, where he was scheduled to hold talks with officials.

The deputy prime minister urged all Australians to get vaccinated if they haven’t already done so and to book their booster shot when eligible five months after their second dose. “I got Omicron despite being double vaccinated, but really it was pretty mild,” he said of his infection. “It was a couple of days and then the rest of the time I had the virus, they could find the virus on me, but I didn’t feel sick and that’s one of the frustrations.”
