An extraordinary coup!

The Australian Baseball League has secured one of the biggest names in the modern game, with Manny Ramirez signing a one-year deal with the Sydney Blue Sox.

In a stellar baseball career that began with the Cleveland Indians in 1993 and also saw him play for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox, it was in Boston that Ramirez became a household name, where he is honoured in the Red Sox Hall of Fame. Now even at 48 years of age, Ramirez has told the ABL and Blue Sox that he still has games left in him. And the Sydney-based ABL team were happy to oblige.

"It was his preference to play down here in a big city and we're thrilled to have a player of his calibre in Sydney."Dobb said the baseball legend wants to "be an ambassador" for the sport in Australia and "was keen to play a role in helping the development of his Sydney teammates as a player-coach."
