The Herald's View: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has survived a leadership spill brought on by the Partygate scandal, but he does not deserve to remain in office

over the boozy get-togethers he attended in Downing Street during the pandemic lockdowns.

But Johnson’s denials, cover-ups and nonsensical excuses since then have been even more insulting to the British people’s intelligence. The 38-page report controversially chose not to look into one crucial incident because it is being investigated by police, but it still documented lurid tales of karaoke machines, children’s swings broken in the garden and red wine spilt on the walls.

This is yet another attempt to confuse and deceive. This is not about a few innocent drinks after work. The issue is that Johnson is showing contempt towards voters. He refuses to accept that he has to abide by the same laws as they do.British voters and many inside the Conservative Party, who called a confidence vote on his leadership on Monday, have understood that Johnson is arrogant, ill-disciplined and mendacious.
