A fire near a DJ deck has disrupted the Big Bash clash between the Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on Thursday night. The Hurricanes were 0-47 off four overs chasing Brisbane’s target of 202 when play was suddenly put on hold. Cameras showed flames behind the fence on level three as a man casually sprayed a fire extinguisher. “There also looks to be a fire up near the DJ deck at the moment, which is a tad concerning!” Emma Freedman said on Channel 7 during a cross between overs.
She’d just gone for a break,” Damien Fleming said. “Extraordinary,” Ferguson added. Brisbane veteran Usman Khawaja confirmed the umpires had stopped the match for safety reasons but were otherwise in the dark. Play resumed about 10 minutes after the initial stoppage. While the reason for the fire is unclear, it adds to an unedifying list of episodes to halt play at the Gabba in recent years — with power outages a common theme.
