Big call on best prop in NRL; Storm’s gaping hole: Corey Parker’s finals verdict
Elsewhere, the Panthers and Storm are set to face off in yet another edition of their building rivalry.
Fast forward 12 months and Kevin Walters side conceded the second least points, holding a better defensive resolve than every team bar the Panthers. “The Broncos have always been able to score points and we’ve seen that frequently but defensively is where they have really improved.Kevin Walters has the Broncos humming. Picture: NRL ImageryThe Broncos boast one of the most dangerous spines in the competition, with Reece Walsh, Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam all firing.
Both Ponga and Walsh boast electric speed and are at their best when sweeping off the back of shape, with Parker believing they are “similar players in terms of their speed and skillset”. “But again, easier said than done. But the did a great job against the likes of Ponga and were able to limit his impact. The Broncos are home to several big-name players, but none more experienced than veteran halfback Adam Reynolds.“The player for me who is most important, and he is the general, is Adam Reynolds,” Parker said.
“The Warriors against the Panthers, they were taught a real lesson in how to play semi-final football,” Parker said.“But they played the long game, listening to some of the noise coming out of the Warriors, they are just firmly relying on their process and their system. But the Warriors weren’t expected to even make the top eight and now they have a big question mark lingering over their heads in their bid to win their first-ever premiership.“I say that respectfully, they played against the Knights who had a lot of momentum but didn’t throw a lot at them.
“Addin Fonua-Blake for mine is the No.1 prop in the competition, and I say that with respect to Payne Haas,” Parker said. Parker believes you can never write off the Melbourne club and pointed to their response against the Roosters after being hammered 26-0 by the Broncos in the first week of finals. Meanwhile, the Storm’s middle has been “outmuscled” this season in important games and Parker believes their forwards need to stand up.Felise Kaufusi, Brandon Smith, Jesse Bromwich and Kenny Bromwich were always going to leave a gaping hole and Parker is concerned they could get dominated in the prelims.
