Former US President Bill Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Centre in Washington for testing and observation after developing a fever. Clinton, 78, is in good spirits and receiving excellent care. While the situation is not considered urgent, Clinton has a history of health issues since leaving office in 2001.

Former US president Bill Clinton has been admitted to a Washington hospital after developing a fever. The 78-year-old was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Centre on Monday “for testing and observation”, Angel Urena, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, said in a statement. “He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving,” Urena said.

Clinton has spoken at every Democratic National Convention since 1976, including this August. “I want to say this from the bottom of my heart,” he said in that address. “I have no idea how many more of these I’ll be able to come to.” A source close to Clinton, the 42nd president, said the situation was “not urgent.” “The former president will be fine,” the source said. “He developed a fever and wanted to be checked out. He is awake and alert.
