A landmark bill to establish an independent body responsible for overseeing a treaty or treaties between the government and Victoria’s First Peoples will be introduced in the state parliament on Tuesday.
“Together with the First Peoples’ Assembly, we are establishing an independent Treaty Authority with the ability to deliver an innovative approach to treaty negotiations based on Aboriginal lore, law and cultural authority,” Williams said. He credited First Nations communities around the state and their representatives in the Assembly for designing and driving the bill.
