87,000 birds will be culled over the course of about a week in NSW after it was confirmed on Saturday that avian flu has hit a second farm in the state.
A second farm in NSW's Hawkesbury region has confirmed the presence of avian flu with about 87,000 birds to be killed at the property over the coming week.
NSW Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty commended the state’s snap lockdown of the nearby farms amid the second farm's confirmation of the flu. Ms Moriarty ordered the immediate lockdown of machinery, materials, animals and transport within a two kilometres radius of the affected egg farm. Shoppers were only allowed to buy two cartons each at stores in all states except for Western Australia.
