Fiji's Prime Minister apologised for the arrests and praised media for exposing the Chinese company's illegal environmental destruction.
"It has not been a smooth ride between this Government and the media over the past decade, but today was a welcome sign," he said.
A call is issued for Pacific Island journalists to defend themselves against an onslaught on press freedom, but some politicians say the media is not always truthful. "Fiji's government regularly harasses and arrests activists and journalists who take part in protests or express criticism of the authorities.
