The Blackburn hub where disadvantaged and vulnernable women can have funded gym sessions

A fully-funded gym is offering a solace for vulnerable and disadvantaged women to create friendships and help alleviate mental health issues. Leanne Proctor, 42, has been involved in the world of fitness since she was 18 and has always wanted to have her own gym.

"We used a little pot of money through Inspire - so we got £1,000 and we used that to do fitness classes for ladies who have addiction problems and it just grew from there really," Leanne explained.

The women that use the service are through the referral partners of the Project. Leanne said: "Any women who are vulnerable, so victims of domestic abuse, drug and alcohol issues or we're getting a lot with mental health issues obviously, so if they'd like more of a holistic approach then they'd get referred into us. The gym is like the hook to get them into us.
