NSW’s malaise would appear to be terminal. But the example of the Blues – for so long New Zealand rugby’s great underachievers – shows a turnaround is possible.
The announcement of yet another Rugby Australia review, this time into the Waratahs, is likely to have prompted more eye rolls than excitement among the NSW faithful.
But while some reviews are useless, not all are. For long-suffering NSW fans, I would point to one that actually worked at the Blues, the previously talent-rich but underperforming franchise in New Zealand’s biggest city . There is one qualification, however. They have yet to play the Blues, Hurricanes and Crusaders. Two of those games are at home, and they probably need to win two out of three to get that coveted spot in the top two, and a Canberra advantage all the way to the final.The Rebels playmaker delivered his best performance of the season so far against the Fijian Drua.
