Police officers have recovered the body of a man in the Tweed River, close to the NSW-Queensland border, after a large scale search was mounted for a missing swimmer.
The body is yet to be formally identified, but police say they believe it is the swimmer's – a man aged in his 20s.Wet night, but 'this is just the beginning'A search for a missing swimmer has ended in tragedy after authorities found the body of a man - believed to be the missing person - in the Tweed River.
Emergency services were called to the area just after 1pm after receiving reports a swimmer was having difficulty in the water near Barneys Point Bridge at Chinderah. Witnesses said they saw the man vanish below the surface of the water, sparking the desperate call-out.Divers were called to join the search for the man after reports came in to authorities shortly after 1pm yesterday.
