A search was launched involving Wollongong police, officers from the marine area command, ambulance crews and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.The marine search was scaled back on February 27, but a continued air and land search assisted by drones could not locate his body.About 2.40pm on Monday, a bushwalker spotted a body on rocks about 800 metres south of the Figure Eight Pools.
Local police assisted by police rescue and the police helicopter started a recovery operation, and the man's body was retrieved about midday on Tuesday. While the body is yet to be formally identified, police believe it is the body of the missing 22-year-old swimmer.During the search for the missing man, another body was pulled from the water in the Royal National Park.
While the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was searching for the 22-year-old, they were called to reports a man was floating in the water at Little Marley Beach about 10.50am on February 26. The man, who could not be revived, was believed to be the skipper of a boat that washed up on the rocks at Bundeena the same morning.
