It took until 2012 for the man dubbed "demolition man" to be tracked down, arrested and sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

But he is now due to walk free from Porong prison within days after being granted an early release as part of Indonesia's Independence Day.The move is a major blow to victims of the blasts and their families, as they prepare to commemorate the anniversary and remember the 88 Australians killed on October 12, 2002.

Survivors and families of victims have said all of the Bali Bombers should be made to see out their sentences in full or at least be subject to strict monitoring on release.
