Noah’s Backpackers hostel in Bondi has been closed by police in response to concerns about a COVID-19 outbreak.
It is not yet known whether the latest cluster involves the highly-transmissible Omicron strain or the number of people caught up in the lockdown.
The lockdown comes after dozens of infections were linked to a pub trivia night in Sydney’s Inner West and eight additional Omicron cases were reported, taking the total in NSW to 42.Other outbreak locations include the Oxford Tavern in Petersham which has been linked to 44 people who have tested positive after attending an event on November 30.
The pub has been closed for deep cleaning until Saturday and staff have also been asked to get a COVID-19 test. NSW Health is also contacting staff and customers who were at Woody’s Surf Shack Nightclub on November 30 and December 1-3.
