Environmental education staff from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions were leading the activity at the time.
Three ambulance crews responded to the scene and transported the boy to Bunbury Hospital before he was flown to Perth Children's Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). He remains in a critical condition. An investigation into the incident is underway by WorkSafe WA. The City of Bunbury and local authorities are cooperating with authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding the accident. The City of Bunbury's chief executive, Alan Ferris, expressed deep sadness over the incident and thanked the emergency responders, museum staff, and community members who provided immediate assistance. State member for Bunbury, Don Punch, stated that the incident is a terrible tragedy and that the community, particularly the staff present at the museum, are deeply affected.
