When Brisbane City Council cut electricity and barbecues to two homeless camps, Kira Leaf came with generators and gas cookers.
The 24-year-old is part of Park Family, a group of mostly homeless people who cook food for others sleeping in parks throughout south-east Queensland.
The Maori woman said they feed several homeless teenagers at Kurilpa Point Park, some of whom are as young as 13 years old. They had broken open a door under the barbecues and were using electrical outlets inside to charge their phones and other devices.Cr Hutton said the barbecues had been repeatedly vandalised.
"This situation has been created by the previous Labor state government's soft-on-crime approach and a decade of underinvestment in housing."
