Greens Councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan has hit back at his Brisbane LNP colleagues for slamming his proposal to introduce a 30km/h speed limit on quiet back-streets in Queensland's capital.
Greens Councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan has hit back at Brisbane's Deputy Mayor who labelled his 30 kilometre per hour speed limit proposal as a"rapid motorist agenda".Mr Sriranganathan, councillor for the Gabba Ward, has proposed a 30km/h speed limit on"residential back-streets" in Brisbane with the City Council set to vote on Tuesday over whether to slow traffic on neighbourhood streets.
"They are literally sending out media releases and briefing journalists to try to get them to have a go at me. "Obviously lower speed limits for small residential streets is not the only change we need to improve pedestrian safety and encourage active transport. “His latest thought bubble to introduce 30km/h speed limits on local and neighbourhood roads would impact about 90 per cent or more than 14,000 Brisbane streets,” Ms Adams said in a statement on Tuesday morning. Deputy Mayor Krista Adams slams Greens' proposal to introduce a 30km speed limit in Brisbane. "You have made policy which affect commuters and create congestion because all vehicle take longer to progress on all roads in your jurisdiction," one person wrote on Facebook.
