One month after permanently increasing Suncorp Stadium’s concert cap from six to 12 annual events, the state government has released the full community consultation report. The stadium’s maximum number of concerts was temporarily increased for the past two years under post-COVID measures designed to boost Brisbane’s tourism industry.
However, one in five locals living in the surrounding Lang Park traffic area disagreed with the cap – citing antisocial behaviour from event attendees, increased traffic, and noise concerns. Some respondents also highlighted potential damage to the stadium playing surface an increased number of concerts would bring, especially if the government allowed concert series to be defined as concerts.
