A retired paediatric surgeon and Anglican priest has been committed to stand trial over an allegation by a former television journalist who claimed the man sexually abused him as a boy.
Dr Mervyn Meredith Lander has been accused of the indecent treatment of a boy under 17 in Spring Hill in Brisbane in 1988.The alleged victim’s mother gave evidence at a committal hearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday, recalling how her son disclosed the alleged incident to her while driving home.
“I can see myself in the car with [my son] right now,” she told the court. “What he said was, ‘Mum why did Dr Lander pull down my pants?’Google Maps The court also heard from the alleged victim’s father, as well as a close friend, and a former colleague, who testified he had told them of the alleged incident.
