Samantha Maiden has told a court she thought a message sent to her by Brittany Higgins’ partner David Sharaz in the days after her alleged rape was inappropriate.
Already a subscriber?Messages sent to journalist Samantha Maiden in the days after she broke news of Brittany Higgins’ alleged rape in Parliament House have been aired in court, with the senior reporter describing one text she received as “inappropriate”.
“She was basically messaging me to say, ‘we’re going to ask more questions of Senator Linda Reynolds’.” After Ms Higgins explained to Ms Maiden that Senator Reynolds held a meeting with her in the same room where she was allegedly raped by fellow Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann, Ms Maiden said: “I think that is f---ing nuts. Do you not think that is nuts?”Senator Reynolds is suing Ms Higgins for a series of social media posts she claims subjected her to public “hatred, scandal, odium and contempt”.
Other snippets of audio played to the court included Ms Maiden explaining to Ms Higgins she should only progress with the story if she felt comfortable.
