About 50 kilometres from Brisbane's CBD, the federal seat of Dickson encompasses sprawling acreage properties in the idyllic Moreton Bay and suburban homes in traditionally working-class suburbs including Strathpine and Joyner.Properties prices in the area are increasing steadily, but compared to cities like Sydney and Melbourne the electorate is still affordable, making it an attractive location for first home buyers.
The policy is opposed by the government and local buyer's agent Paul Palella, who says while there may be temporary benefits for first home buyers, it will be unsustainable for the market. “Now, whether they're able to keep their investment properties once that policy comes to being, I don't know.”Patrick Bulman is the CEO of Encircle, an organisation which helps thousands of people dealing with mortgage stress and the rising cost of living.
