Bus and tram passengers have been warned over a new 'free travel' scam circulating on social media. Nottingham City Council has urged users of public transport in the city to not fall for a social media advert promoting a fake £200 Robin Hood Card.
Posting to X, the city council's transport team, said: "It seems that the free travel scam has made its way to Nottingham - please be aware if you see this ad for a 'smardcard' that it is a scam and not linked to the Robin Hood Card. If you see this ad on Facebook or Twitter, please report it as a scam."
The false advert, posted by an account called SmardCard for Transport, said: "Exciting news! We're delighted to announce a fantastic promotion - a chance to win £200 off Robin Hood Network!"You have a chance to get a Robin Hood Card with a £200 balance for just £2." As stated by Nottingham City Council, this scam is not linked to the Robin Hood Card, which can be used to pay for bus, tram and train services in the Greater Nottingham area.
