Firefighters are continuing to battle a blaze in Langford and Beckenham in the City of Gosnells, but it has now been contained and downgraded to watch and act level.
Residents in the south-eastern Perth suburbs of Langford and Beckenham endured an anxious time on Wednesday afternoon as an emergency level bushfire threatened homes.
Just before 2pm, residents were warned to act immediately to survive as the fire approached homes and businesses. Authorities said homes to the north of the Canning River, in an area bounded by Kenwick Link, Roe Highway, Spencer Road and Nicholson Road are under threat.The fire alert level was downgraded to watch and act shortly after 4pm, with authorities stating that it had been contained.Perth is sweltering under hot conditions today, with a forecast top of 40 degrees.Resident Heather Batalin said the fire came right up to the back of her property.
