Two out-of-control bushfires in Victoria's west have caused widespread damage and prompted emergency warnings. A fire near Dimboola has burned through 65,000 hectares, destroying the Little Desert Nature Lodge and threatening homes and lives. A second fire in the Grampians National Park has also prompted evacuation warnings.

The Little Desert Nature Lodge at Nhill has been destroyed.Fire crews are battling an out-of-control bushfire near Dimboola , in Victoria 's west, that burnt through 65,000 hectares of land in a day on Monday.

Kate Kennedy, whose father built the lodge around 50 years ago, said the speed of the fire took people by surprise yesterday. Residents in communities to the north of the fire were also told to take shelter, including at Gerang Gerung, Kiata, Kinimakatka, Lawloit, Little Desert, Winiam and Winiam East.

"A really fast-moving fire but fortunately it settled down a bit overnight with some cooler conditions," he told ABC Radio Melbourne.
