Restaurant and Catering Industry Association CEO Belinda Clarke says “there’s been some pretty tough conversations” after the Fair Work Commission raised the minimum wage by 5.2 per cent.

She said, however, businesses have a “hangover of debt” from the last two years “that they’re still just trying to get ahead of”. “Over the last two years we missed out on $10 billion worth of reservations, they’re just trying to move forward. “And then they’ve got their food prices going up, produce – 50 per cent more than what it was – rents, now we’ve got staffing, it’s pretty tough.”
