The council has issued an explanation
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has revealed why a popular butty shop has recently been given a zero food hygiene rating despite it not being inspected since 2021.
Mr and Mrs Wang told LancsLive that although an inspector did visit on January 10 no formal inspection took place. The council has now confirmed why records appear to indicate an inspection has been carried out.The council explained that the owners have not yet returned a food registration form which was handed to the new owners on that visit on January 10. Once the form is completed an inspection can take place but the form has not been returned as of May 9.
The council told LancsLive: "The premises was visited and new owners Identified they were given a food registration form on 10/1/23 and have not yet returned it as of May 9, 2023. Because they have not returned the form, the premises has remained open on our system as woods bakery with the previous rating from 30/10/21 which was a zero.
LancsLive has also now obtained a copy of the food hygiene inspection report completed after the visit in October 2021. The report reveals a series of steps the bakery's owners must take following the visit after records were found to be incomplete.
