BWS stores across the Northern Territory have moved to shorten their trading hours in the wake of the stabbing death of Darwin employee Declan Laverty. 9News
Laverty, 20, was just minutes away from finishing his shift at a BWS in the city's north when he was allegedly stabbed to death by 19-year-old Keith Kerinauia, who had been refused service.
It's since been revealed in court that Kerinauia was out on bail over an earlier alleged aggravated assault involving "a bladed weapon".BWS parent company Endeavour Group confirmed to 9News that as part of transitional measures of reopening that all stores across the Northern Territory would now close at 6pm.earlier revealed his son's final text message"Love you, I've been stabbed," the text read at 8.45pm on Sunday, minutes after the alleged attack at Jingili.
The father said he rushed to the shop in an Uber, as his son had taken his car, to find emergency services there.A security guard had tried to save his son, but he had already died.Kerinauia is charged with eight offences including several counts of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, breach of adult bail and murder.Damian Crook spoke with Today about the moment he found out his son Declan had been killed.
Kerinauia made no application for bail and will spend the next nine weeks behind bars until the matter returns to court on May 24. The community continues to grapple with the death of Laverty, who was described by his father on a local radio station as "a wonderful, opinionated, strong lad".Continue reading
