As dangerous new opioids arrive on Australian streets, experts are calling for more frontline workers to be issued with naloxone, a medicine that can halt drug overdoses.
Experts say the increasing prevalence of powerful synthetic opioids in Australia means more naloxone needs to be distributed.

Powerful synthetic opioids are increasingly being found in other drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamines. The most well-known synthetic opioid is fentanyl, the drug linked to a staggering 75,000 deaths in the United States last year.
"If they do come across someone and they've got naloxone on board, they can respond quickly and effectively."
