Pressure is mounting on the Premier to make a major change to the location of the ‘ring of steel’ checkpoints around metropolitan Melbourne.
State Liberal MP for Eildon Cindy McLeish is backing the frustrated residents, calling on the Premier during parliament to remove stage four restrictions and rezone parts of the Yarra Ranges and Nillumbik shires to regional.

Picture: Stuart McEvoy/The Australian.She said her constituents living in the areas in Melbourne’s outer northeast had always “considered that they live in the country” and wanted the Premier to consider this when implementing COVID restrictions.
“Many are involved in agriculture and horticulture and fight pests such as deer and foxes – the same as those living in regional Victoria. Mail delivery is a challenge and non-existent in places. Many communities are over 60 or even 80kms from the CBD. From Thursday the four reasons to leave home will no longer apply, gatherings of up to 10 people will be allowed outside, infants under 12 months not included, and up to five visitors are allowed in the home from a nominated household.
