A 16-year-old boy is facing a dangerous driving charge and a 12-year-old girl is charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle after a police chase in north Queensland.

A 16-year-old boy in north Queensland is facing charges of dangerous driving, wilful damage and unlicensed driving after an incident involving multiple stolen cars.Chase came after allegedly stolen car did burnouts around youth detention centreA 12-year-old girl was among eight young people arrested after the incident, which involved a police pursuit of an allegedly stolen car.

Two officers were injured and four squad cars damaged as the car tried to evade police, after being spotted doing burnouts near the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville. Officers were called to Old Common Road in Belgian Gardens around 9pm after reports of two stolen cars in the area.Officers quickly deflated the ute's tyres by using stingers, but the male driver did not stop.

Police said the ute then drove onto Bundock and William streets to flee from officers, and accelerated at a number of squad cars and motorists. Two officers sustained minor injuries when their vehicle was rammed, while three other squad cars were also damaged.
