Cameron Ciraldo knocks back Wests Tigers coaching job | MichaelChammas mrchrisnico

Wests Tigers are back on the hunt for a new coach after No.1 priority Cameron Ciraldo informed them late on Saturday that he would not take up their offer.

“The club has been contacted by Cameron Ciraldo and his management this afternoon, and they have advised the club that he is not in a position to accept the role of head coach at this juncture in his career,” the Tigers said in a statement. However, the 37-year-old’s decision to pass on the Tigers will now throw open the race to the likes of John Morris, who played under Tigers’ head of football Tim Sheens and is seen as the new favourite, and Kristian Woolf, the St Helens coach who passed on the New Zealand Warriors top job this week.

Penrith are now expected to fast-track their negotiations and lock in Ciraldo for at least 2023. The Panthers have made it clear they are happy to entertain a contract that gives Ciraldo the flexibility to leave if a top-flight job appeals to him.
