Minerals Council Chief Executive Tania Constable has called for a “portfolio approach” to Australia’s energy mix as she cast serious doubts over Labor’s renewables pathway, lashing the government's 'pet projects'.

Minerals Council Chief Executive Tania Constable lashes Energy Minister Chris Bowen's renewable ‘pet projects’ as industry leaders cast doubt over targets

Energy Australia’s former chairman Graham Bradley has deemed the target unrealistic, telling The Australian, “There is a need to push out the target date to something more reasonable.” Ms Constable told Sky News host Andrew Bolt what Australia needs is affordable, reliable and clean energy, but “we're not seeing that with the current government's plan”.

“We can't afford pet projects right now for Australia and one narrow pathway is not good enough. It's not proving good enough for Australia. If we keep going down this path, we're just going to be poorer and poorer.” “We're seeing blackouts occurring, we're seeing brownouts are occurring, and that will just get worse over time as we as we have more people in Australia, we have more businesses like data centres that require a lot of energy," she said.

"Go back to the basics, go back to the fundamentals and create a situation where we have all energy sources available.”
