A group of climate campaigners 'sick of waiting for a response from Scott Morrison' on climate change have adopted a new tactic - talking to his mum.
As the heat continued, protesters, including students representing the School Strike 4 Climate movement,
set up tents on the road outside Mr Morrison's official residence on Thursday, calling it the"Kirribilli camp-out"The Coalition government has said it is on track to reduce carbon emissions by at least 26 per cent by 2030, in line with the Paris Agreement commitments. On Friday morning, Prime Minister Scott Morrison responded to criticism about the timing of his family holiday and said he will be returning to Sydney soon. , said he would return as soon as flights could be arranged.
"Our leave was brought forward due to the need to cancel our scheduled leave in January because of our official government visit to India and Japan at the invitation of PMs Modi and Abe," Mr Morrison said in a statement issued on Friday morning. "I deeply regret any offence caused to any of the many Australians affected by the terrible bushfires by my taking leave with family at this time.
