New mobile detection cameras catch thousands of drivers in NSW | Sky News AustraliaMore than 3,300 drivers have been caught illegally using their phones in the first week of a new camera detection program in New South Wales.\n\nFixed and mobile trailer-mounted cameras were activated on December 1.\n\nThe world-first technology checked more than 700,000 vehicles, with offenders given a three month 'grace period'.\n\nUntil March they will be issued with a warning letter, before receiving a $344 fine and a loss of five demerit points.\n\nThose caught in a school zone will be hit with a $457 charge. \n\nRoads Minister Andrew Constance says there will be no warning signs for the cameras because illegal phone use is as dangerous as drink driving.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia
