The party says it would lower the cap on general rate increases to 2.2 per cent if successful in winning government at October's ACT election. Rates are currently capped at 3.75 per cent but individual rises vary depending on the household and can be higher.

In some suburbs, rates for house owners will increase by an average of 6 per cent in the next financial year "Canberrans have been gouged for the last decade by Andrew Barr in relation to pursuing his tax agenda." Ms Lee said the opposition's policy would be costed in the lead-up to the election, but it would seek to replace some of the foregone revenue by speeding up land releases for more housing.
