A Canberra woman avoids a long stint behind bars after reporting to police a man she met on the dating app Tinder who sent her over 2,000 pieces of child abuse material, and subsequently being charged with possession of the material.

Canberra woman avoids jail for possession of child abuse material after reporting man she met on dating app who sent it to her Canberra woman Chelsea Crivici has avoided jail for possession and transmission of child abuse material after reporting the man who sent it to her to police, resulting in him being convicted.

But she said she did send some of the images she received back to Henderson, saying she was "lonely" at the time. Her evidence led to Henderson being convicted for using a carriage service to both possess and send child abuse material, receiving a sentence of more than two years in jail, which has since been reduced.

Justice Loukas-Karlsson described the offending of Crivici, Henderson, and others convicted of similar crimes as "appalling" telling the court "these are not victimless crimes".
