The World Health Organization has recommended countries that have been hit with a steep rise in COVID-19 cases should cancel Christmas events.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization, WHO, speaks at the WHO headquarters, in Geneva.Countries that are battling rising COVID-19 case numbers should delay or cancel Christmas events to stop the spread of the Omicron variant, the World Health Organisation says.

"There is now consistent evidence that Omicron is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant," he said. Omicron appears to be better at evading antibodies generated by some COVID-19 vaccines but there are other forms of immunity that may prevent infection and disease, WHO officials said.People are being encouraged to get a booster shot -A man is seen receiving a vaccination at a Cohealth pop-up vaccination clinic in Victoria.
