As temperatures edge towards 40 degrees this weekend, a new grading system ranks Sydney estuaries so you can see which ones are a nice spot to cool down and which are to be avoided | Laura_R_Chung

Swimmers hoping to cool off in coastal estuaries around NSW will be able to access water quality data.The new monitoring system will make data publicly available for the first time in 21 years.“We welcome this data that enables our 52 coastal councils to make evidence-based decisions about their estuaries and monitor results over time,” Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said.

“Estuaries, by their nature, tend to be replenished or cleaned with water flushing through them with tides,” he said. “Most are likely to be safe places to swim. Three new locations are earmarked to open to users in the coming years, including Bayview Baths in Concord which was closed in 1969 and completely demolished in 1995. The area will be reopened in April next year.
