With candles in hand, the crowd fell silent to remember the life of the schoolgirl who was found dead by members of the public
Dozens of LGBT activists gathered in the city centre on Wednesday night to mourn the loss of the 16-year-old. Brianna, who was a transgender girl, was found by members of the public as she lay with fatal stab wounds on a path in a park at around 3.13pm on Saturday.
Prosecutor Leanne Gallagher told the court Brianna’s death was "extremely brutal and punishing". Police are exploring whether the teenager, from Birchwood in Warrington, was the victim of a hate crime. It was one of several candlelit vigils to be held last night with others taking place outside the Department for Education building in central London as well as in Dublin and Belfast. On Tuesday evening, people gathered for candlelit vigils at St George’s Hall in Liverpool and at College Green in Bristol and more vigils are due to be held across the UK in coming days.
