“Unfortunately, we just happen to be in some atrocious conditions at the moment, we’ve got eight-metre swells out there, 30 knot [winds] its atrocious conditions for those guys on the task to be operating in.”The 170-metre ship with 21 crew drifted off Sydney’s Royal National Park as wild weather brought high seas and heavy rain to the city.
The threat sparked a joint emergency mission by the state’s SES, NSW Police and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, which started with an attempt to winch seven crew members to safety.
