Geelong, Richmond and Adelaide are the clubs vying for Jacob Hopper should the Giant request a trade this year. | By Jake Niall agerealfooty
Geelong, Richmond and Adelaide are the clubs in contention for Jacob Hopper should the talented midfielder seek a trade from the Giants.
The Cats and Tigers are in a similar position in that both clubs will have veterans departing from their ranks in the next two seasons and thus have both spots opening up in their midfields and some salary cap room. The Tigers, of course, would have a massive salary cap gain if their superstar Dustin Martin was traded given he is contracted at close to $1.2 million over 2023 and 2024.
The Magpies are not believed to be in the running for Hopper, according to well-placed sources. Their prospects and need to acquire a midfielder would be enhanced if their own star Jordan De Goey exits as a free agent, earning a compensation draft pick and opening up salary cap space.
