A struggling welfare recipient with only $20 in her bank account confronted the Treasurer on the ABC's Q and A program asking what areas of her budget she can improve as the cost of living places more pressure on vulnerable Australians.

Fiona, who only has $20 in her bank account, was part of the audience for Mr Chalmers’ appearance on Q and A on Thursday night, revealing she was struggling with the rising cost of living and was being forced to make choices between food and her health.

“Welfare recipients like myself are meant to be grateful for that rise, what essentials should I be cutting from my budget?,” she asked Dr Chalmers.
