Australian cyclist Caleb Ewan is the first confirmed rider for next year’s Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide. It will be the champion sprinter’s first race with new team Jayco AIUIa after returning to the squad where he started his professional career in 2014. Ewan, 29, ended his contract with Lotto-Dstny a year early after a tough season where he managed only one win and abandoned the Tour de France during stage 13.
“It is a great way to start off the year, and the support we get from Aussie crowds is incredible. “I feel I have unfinished business in the Santos Tour Down Under and can’t wait to get back there, racing for Team Jayco AlUla this January.” Race director Stuart O’Grady said it was a major coup to have Ewan on the start line. “Caleb will be out to prove he is one of the fastest sprinters on the planet,” he said.
